The March Uprising
An account of the rise and fall of the Eirenn Republic
Introduction
The Socialist Republic of Eire does not currently claim land on Micras, so place names and descriptions may not match up to an eventual Micran land claim. However, the period between March and June of 2010 was the foundational period in which Brandon O'Brien (also known elsewhere as Henzelli) formulated the idea for the Socialist Republic of Eire, and so represents the tumultuous formation between independence and Socialism for the young micronation.
This account chronicles the post-independence attempt to form the Eirenn Republic, its benefits, its problems, and its ultimate collapse leading to the creation of the Socialist Republic of Eire.
Chapter I: Occupation under the Anglacht
Since the time before time, as the old Eirenn saying goes, the Eirenn had been subjected to the occupation of the Angelenn, an assimilated group of barbarians that had come from across the sea to claim Eire as their own. They had formed a government that became known as the Anglacht, which made no distinction between the recognized leader of the military (a Hetman in Slavic parlance) and the absolute monarch of the country. According to Eirenn custom, this "hetmantate" fit quite well with their own local customs, and there is little in the written record that says the Eirenn disagreed with the form of government, but rather that they suffered under a policy of "Anglisation" in which the Angelenn attempted to force Eirenn assimilation.
Ironically, it appears the Angelenn lost their own language and began speaking a patois of Eirenn and Angle rather early, until it evolved into a distinct dialect of Eirenn called Angelenn, of which there are still many speakers today. Additionally, the more patriarchal modes of Angelenn society seem to have disappeared shortly after the evolution of the language, and the first female Angloiseichar ("Hetman") was crowned shortly thereafter. Umria Gautsdetter is still a celebrated hero for both the Eirenn and the Angelenn. She not only put an end to formal assimilation policies, she also expanded Angelenn influence beyond the borders they had previously enjoyed and led several successful military campaigns during her lifetime. Her unique lineage, being of an Eirenn father and an Angelenn mother, both nobility, made her the first purely noble-born Angloiseichar, as previously, most had been born of one noble parent and one peasant parent.
Umria's reign also forced an evolution in Eirenn society. The Anglacht had previously only made distinction formally as an effort to assimilate the Eirenn population. In practice, the distinction between the two peoples was maintained simply out of habit and custom. When Umria died, she had empowered the nobility inadvertently by being of purely noble blood. The nobility ceased intermarrying with the peasantry and began electing the Angloiseichar from amongst themselves. The warrior culture began to die as mercantilism began to grow, and the nobility reserved the name Angelenn for themselves and deigned Eirenn to become almost a racial slur.
To be finished
